BURGOS, 6 Ago.

'Clunia Cultural' and the XVI Summer Festival of Clunia, organized by the Provincial Council of Burgos, will offer multiple artistic proposals between August 11th and 19th at the Roman theater of Clunia Sulpicia, in the town of Peñalba de Castro.

The ancient city of Clunia, one of the main cities of Roman Hispania, will come to life through different artistic performances. Additionally, it will transport visitors 2,000 years back in time with theatrical tours, children's archaeological workshops, a summer course in collaboration with the University of Burgos, and twelve shows in nearby towns.

This edition of the Summer Festival will begin on August 11th with 'The Odyssey of Magellan and Elcano', a performance of the first circumnavigation that celebrated its fifth centenary last year. The production has received several 'Lorca' awards, including Best Cast.

Furthermore, on the following day, 'The Miser' by Molière will be presented in a musical format, which received the Best Theater Show Award at the Seville Stages 2022. Similarly, on August 13th, 'Disconcert', a theatrical concert that combines music, humor, and gestural theater, will interpret classics such as Mozart or Vivaldi.

The program includes 'The Tomb of Antigone' on August 18th, a reinterpretation by María Zambrano of the classic by Sophocles that combines theater and philosophy, and incorporates theatricalized dance. The festival will conclude on August 19th with 'Miles Gloriosus', a Roman comedy co-produced by Arequipa Productions and the Classical Theater Festival of Mérida. It will be starring two great veterans of the stage, Carlos Sobera and Elisa Matilla.

During the presentation, the First Vice President of the Provincial Council, Ramiro Ibáñez, highlighted the growing success of the festival, which sold out in its last edition, and "the opportunity that this annual event represents to nationally showcase one of the main archaeological wonders" of the country, as well as "an undeniable attraction of the province of Burgos."
